History

Harry George Tyson – Ann O’Neill and John Tyson Jr.’s grandfather and Marissa O’Neill’s great grandfather – invented the first road grooving machine which was patented February 23, 1943. From patent to manufacture of “The Groover” took approximately eight years. Sometime after the manufacturing of The Groover, Harry took a much needed vacation and gave Power of Attorney to his lawyer. His lawyer then sold the patent and left for parts unknown. Harry Tyson no longer had the patent. In the years of 1956-1958, Harry decided to open a pavement cutting business with a saw modified from his original invention. He sold his creation to his contacts in the industry – as he was well-known to everyone – with his son John Tyson Sr. (Ann’s father) acting as the operator of the machine. This continued into 1966, when Martin O’Neill began working with him in the field. 1966 is also the year Island Pavement Cutting Co., Inc. was established as a corporation. Ann O’Neill ran the business end of things from the office with her brother John lending assistance in the field. John Tyson (Senior) semi-retired in 1983 and in 1985 Ann and Marty assumed ownership of the Corporation and ran the day-to-day operations of the Company. In 1986, Island Pavement became a Disadvantaged/Women Owned Business and Ann assumed the majority of responsibilities for running the corporation. In 1992, John (Jr.) came on board full time, joined by Marissa in 1996, both providing invaluable time, talent and support. In the ensuing years, Island Pavement continued to grow and expand gaining experience and expertise in our mainstay service types of saw cutting, joint work and protective sealing. During those years, Island Pavement weathered many economic and business upturns and downturns, always remaining a family oriented business. In the early 2000’s, IPCC expanded into the waterproofing market, spearheaded and guided by Marissa’s innovation and business acumen. Led by Marissa, IPCC has established itself as a leader in the waterproofing markets as well as maintaining its core of roadway services, guiding IPCC into its strongest and its most diverse era ever. In 2016 the mantel of the corporation was officially passed from Ann to Marissa, its new President and head of all operations. Marissa is supported by a diverse and well experienced office staff and field crew. “IPCC is an Equal Opportunity Employer”
